Fahmi is a recognised expert on financial services with a specific interest in the relationship between governance, risk management, accountability, remuneration and culture. He is the Managing Director and Co-founder of Rhizome Advisory Group, which advises boards and leaders of financial institutions on governance-related topics. Fahmi has 20 years’ experience in financial services, with 17 of those spent at APRA.
The last role Fahmi had at APRA was the Head of Governance, Culture & Remuneration. He was responsible for establishing this unit and leading the development of APRA’s thinking, supervisory practices and industry engagement on these interrelated topics. During his career at APRA, he was responsible for leading teams that supervised entities across banking, general insurance, life insurance and superannuation. Between 2012 and 2014, Fahmi led the policy development team that created APRA’s risk management prudential standard CPS 220, as well as APRA’s conglomerate supervision framework. Fahmi was also a member of the Financial Stability Board’s Working Group on Governance Frameworks and has assisted the International Monetary Fund as a Technical Expert on conglomerate supervision.
